Sway bar

I read alot of the posts on the Hellwig sway bar and I think that is what is causeing my popping sound. If I replace the sway bar should I also replace the drop links too? What about the rear sway bar, does it need to be reaplace at the same time that the front one gets replaced?

THanks, Bryan

P.S. Does anyone have one that they would like to get rid of?

I am getting all my bilstein shocks this week and a new sterring stabilizer and would like to tackle everthing at once.

Unless something is broken on your sway bar, it may just be the bushings that are worn out. I got a set of poly. bushings for my Super Duty and they fit the old sway bar and end links. I had to have the old Ford end link bushings pressed out. The new ones are 2-piece, easier to install and much heavier duty. One way to find out if it is the sway bar causing the noise is to just take it completely off and drive it without it.

The new bushings are from Energy Suspension. I got them from Summit.

The beloved popping sound has also been found to originate from some body-to-frame mounting bushings. Have you examined those?

Yes, those have been replaced at 100,000 miles. Does anyone know if the sway bar comes with new end links? If not what end links and bushings should I get?

I did put a Hellwig sway bar on my f-150 last year. It was a bolt on application and came with all the end links, bushings and mounting hardware.

I did notice that on the Hellwig website that you need to use the stock u bolts and end links. I am worried about putting on a new sway bar and using the old end links and bushings. Has anyone who has put the hellwig on the x had any problems using the old endlinks and such? Does anyone have a website that I could go to to get new ones?

THanks, Bryan

PS. Does anyone know if there is a different sway bar that is just a good but includes the bushing and sway bars?

Hi,
I have put a Hellwig rear anti swaybar kit on my 2000 Ex 4x4. I got my kit from JC Whitney complete with end links, bushings and new thicker u-bolts. It was all in the box from Hellwig. I have also installed Landyot Radius Rods and replaced the shocks with Edelbrock IAS. So now my Ex handles "almost" like a sports car compared to how it was earlier.
About the popping noise: Earlier I also had a popping noise that was coming "somewhere" from my front end. I checked body mounts, sway bar mounts, springs, brakes and found nothing wrong. My last try ended up in removing the front shocks one by one, and take a drive around the block. And that was the answer to my popping noise. My front right shock was not tightened properly, so the freeplay between the bolt and the inner steel sleeve in the shock bushing made the noise. Well, I only have my self to blame, I did the shock replacement myself. I have now invested in a good torque wrench.
