Has anyone used the new line of Drill doctor drill bit sharpeners?? I am considering buying one. Do they still have the same durable palstic housing like the old one, or is this the flimsy tool grade plastic stuff? Seems to me no retailer can keep them in stock. www.drilldoctor.com wants 200.00 for it. But i have found a place on the net for 119.00. Any thoughts?
It sure looks fancy but doesn't seem like it works any different than the old one. I'd imagine it's just a ploy to sell a new item to customers who already had one. FWIW I love the drill doctor that I have. I can't remember the model number but it came with the case and a couple different chucks. I'm always using it.
I received one of their new models earlier this year, did a short article on it (and a few other tools) that will be out one of these days. You can see a private copy of it at:
It's really been great for me...I don't know that it's worth replacing an older model, but if you don't have a sharpener at all, I'd say go for it. It's quite well-made WRT the housing, etc.
Yeah, I give big atta boys to drill doctor. their old #750 is what I have, and it has saved me broken arms and done special cuts for stainless... but I wish I had the new model...IF it is adjustable for the clearance angle...seems that half the time I donn't set the fingers quite right and sharpen it backwards. couse I don't feel too bad, my boss gave me his drill set, imported from the land off 1$ a day wages, all the new bits were without a clearance angle. drill doctor too the rescue.
