I have a 96 f-250. I have changed computers with known good ones and done all the hey try this to include turbo and base plate swap and still turbo will not work without unplugging map sensor. ANY HELP please!!!!!!
The turbo pretty much has to work if the motor is running. All it does is spin. The outlet of the exhaust on the turbo has Exhaust Back Pressure Valve (EBPV) that will close to help warm things up. Have you hooked up a boost gauge to get a reading?
Have you checked your rubber boots on the turbo plumbing? If you can give some more details I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction.
if i ubplug the map sensor and floor it I can see the rod move on the valve as well as feel the boost when driving. With the sensor plugged in You have very little power when driveing and will not make more than 2100 rpm.
The truck will respond differently under a load than when sitting in park. If the boost comes back the MAP sensor is disconnected, that is a clue.
Check your map sensor tubing and make sure it's connected to the right spot. Do you have any mods on the truck, or is it stock? How long have you owned it?
What "rod" are you seeing move?? If its your ebpv(exhaust back pressure valve), then maybe unplugging the map sensor deactivates it somehow.. .... Try unplugging the ebpv and plug in the map. And What Bodabdan said.....check the tube on the map going to the intake manifold.
you may have a bad map sensor cause it should act the opposite. i left my map hose unplugged once after doing a glowplug and drove the truck and thought i really screwed up something as it had no power and would rev very high. it drove like the old IDI motors. the map sensor shows the computer how much boost which then tell the computer how much fuel. so if it sees no boost it won't fuel much. is there a check engine light?
