Will the bell housings bolt up for a E4OD to S5-47 ZF swap? Anybody know how much an S5-47 ZF tranny for a 4x4 costs? or what else will have to be changed? Is it just a "bolt in" change over?
Yes a zf-5 wil bolt up the your engine ,, There are two differn zf-5 one for gas and the other for diesel. they have dierent gearing. if you look around you can get a remaned zf-5 for 1200-1500 or so.
you will need hydrolic clutch cyilndres a cultch, flywheel, peddal ays. form what
Ive found out this is not too hard of a swap I'm looking at doing it my self. J
According to this the gears start lower and end higher for a gas engine.
Right?
Would that be OK, assuming the onboard computer could be programmed correctly?
Is there any other reason not to use the gasoline version?
According to the note at the bottom "For vehicles equipped with the 7.3L diesel engine, this transmission requires use of synthetic MERCON® Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid E6AZ-19582-B or MERCON® equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M2C163A2." If I use the gasoline version will I have to change over to this VERY EXPENSIVE (I know about this ) Syn ATF Fluid? (Why do they use ATF fluid in a manual trany?
you wont have to worry about the computer it dose not care what you have..
reasons not to use the gas version are if you have a 4.10 rear gearing it wil make first soo low as to be only useful with a vrey big load or off roading. 2 the jump from 3rd to 4th is big. and you will wish you had a gear in between.
If you have a3.55 rearend Ithink it would work quite well you still have big jump from 3dr 4th but it will give you a great low end and still enkoy the 3.55 an the hi-way'
the reason for atf is the it dose well wht heat,, is thiner for smother shifting and is used in all tranys with aluminuim hosings like the zf-5 ...J
