I'm new to this site and am thrilled to have found it. I am currently driving a 95 Aerostar (production date 9/94) that I've had for 2 years now. We've had minimal problems with her in this time.
The only issues we have had are the tourque converter seal busted, alternator went out (when running from a Hurricane, she could have picked a better time) and this week I blew a fuse.
Now to the problem.
Yesterday I drove her to work and had no issues, she was acting normal and gave no clue (that I noticed) as to what was to come. I was home for about 2 hours and had to leave again. I got a bit down the street to a stop sign and she died. I tried again to start her and she cranks but won't turn over. My 11 year old son, a neighbor and I pushed her back to the house and noticed that she was leaking transmission fluid.
I have no clue what is going on and my husband isn't here to look at it and give me a clue. I've been told everything from a lose hose to needing a whole new transmission. If someone could give me just a bit of insight as to what I should be expecting to hear I'd appreciate it.
It won't turn over and fire. The check engine light has not come on at all. It went into drive the last time I got it to start which was a block before it died.
No, not a clickly click it sounds as if things were working right she'd turn right over. The battery was purchased in Sept and the interior lights don't dim.
ok, just so we are on the same page, the starter is turning the engine over, but it is not firing? (I first thought that it was your starter.) Did you try holding the gas peddal down when trying to start it?
Also have you tried to start it sense then?
When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?
When you first turn the key on (but not start) do you hear a kind of buzz comming from behind you? You might want to try that and see if you hear that sound, if not more than likely your fuel pump is toast.
JTDinger! The other quation: do you hear pump relay clicking and fuel pump sound? As I've understood, the engine is rotated by starter, but it is not firing? 5 years ago I had this problem. The sourse of the problem was shut-off switch. I jumped over a big hole in a road, and engine died in 2 miles...
So check a spark! Are spark plugs wet after trying to start the motor? (It is difficult to remove it, but check it, look at them, what a color are they?)
But as I've understood you have ATF leaking. Check for its level, but these problem are not related....
I'll be waiting for your reply...
93- The starter is turning the engine. I did hear a buzz when I tried to start it yesterday. The fuel pump was replaced in September.
It has almost 195,000 miles on it right now. It's a 3.0 and RWD.
Pablo- I'm not sure if I heard the relay clicking (I've never listened for it before so I'm not sure if it's clicking or not). I've tried in the past to look at the spark plugs and while on other vehicles this wouldn't be an issue on this van it is the source of headaches. The ATF level was normal when I checked it the day she died.
Thank you both for being patient with me. If this were one of my older vehicles this wouldn't be an issue but this van I have no clue on.
Ask someone to try to start the motor and look under the hood during this try... May be starter rotates, but it does not turn the engine... What a buzz sound? I had flightwheel damaged, and I could not start the engine... May be starter drive is dead...
What is the batary voltage? By the way try to check fuel pressure....
