Fireing order

I need to find out what the firing order is for a 1957 to 1964 ford 312 engine. Also where is the timing mark on the pully? Is the Crank slot it? and if you are standing at the rear of the engine is the #1 cylinder on the upper right of the engine

The fireing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 the distributor turns counterclockwise. The cylinders start on the passanger side 1234 drivers 5678. dwell is 26-28 deg 16 point gap to start. The timming markes are on the pully they run tdc 2 4 6 8 10 and a pointer is bolted on the water pump. Mine likes to be around 12

All sounds great. But I thought that the cylinder closest to the front of the radiator was the #1 cylinder. What you are saying is if I am standing in front of the engine the #1 cylinder is on my left 1234 and the right is 5678

Front of engine
5 1
6 2
7 3
8 4
Rear of engine

If this is correct then the #5 cylinder is closest to the front of the radiator.

Lucky Ol Sun, your description of the firing order is correct, and yes, the #5 cylinder is closest to the rad. I guess Ford didn't want to to " go with the flow" with the cylinder numbering. And perhaps that is the reason why many of the intake manifolds had the cylinder numbers cast into the runners. Too many people got the spark plug wires mixed up. I'm just wondering if this was a carry over from the flatheads?
