I am aware of where My Fuel Filter Is..Question is,When Do I know that it needs to be replaced? Bought my truck back in July at 75000 miles.I do pretty good on Gas Mileage.21-22 Highway,A Bit higher on The Interstate.Just Curious.Im really trying to keep on the Maintence On this Ranger.I need it to last awhile. Thanks Gang. You guys are awesome.
I do my trans, rear end, fuel filter, and power steering fluid, coolant and every 25k. At 50k i do the same plus, flush the cooling system and replace the thermostat, new spark plugs and wires.
I change the air and fuel filters at 25K intervals since that makes it easy to remember. If you're not for sure when it was last changed, go ahead and change it now and get into a 25-30K interval.
Ok well if we're talking about everything, I'm with Ken, I do everything at 25K.
Oil the air filter (getting an OEM one next time though), replace fuel filter, drain and replace coolant, tranny fluid, and rear end fluid with cheapo stuff. PS fluid I dunno how to do... Drive around 5-10 miles to circulate all my new fluids, then come home, and drain them all and replace them with good stuff. Replace all plugs and wires, clean the engine bay up real nice, wash the whole truck, then kick back and be proud.
Thanks all for the Info,Ive got a pretty good jist of what I should Do.I was just concerned because when I bought the truck,I didnt know what the Maintence record was like,I mean she runs great.and The Engine Was Clean as a whistle when i bought her.So im assuming it was kept up pretty well for being a 1996.Thanks again
changin it every 25K along iwth everything else, while the book may say you can wait more, I figure it wont hurt to change every 25k, and just get ahead of the problems. I gotta do the tranny fluid, differential fluid, and all that soon. next oil change I'll do it all.
50k mile interval is plenty, a FI filter has a much larger capacity than the older carbureted ones.
Everyone, there's really no reason to change out the rear gear lube unless the axle has ever been submerged or is regularly subjected to extreme environments, ie., you go off roading quite reguarly. Rear axles are pretty well sealed up and don't face the contamination issues like the engine crankcase does.
I agree, big filter and 50k is good.
I always buy used Rangers with 80k to 100k on them.
I usually just put a new one on when I buy one no matter the miles then go 50k.
Same on the dif gear lube.
I change when I get one (to Amsoil - synthetic), then I will go until it needs something like an axle or pinion seal (rare that it happens) or 200 - 250k plus or minus.
Towing / water is the one exception, that's real hard on rear ends.
