4x4 issues, switch to manual hubs?
Just got the truck out of the shop... 94 5.8
When it went in no light, no 4x4.
Mechanic said it was electical problem he Did the transfer case...
Tried it out today, lights come one... pull on to the beach...no 4x4
Get towed out.
i'm thinking a compression problem... when i was doing the plugs last week i noticed a disconected breather hose next to the 1 plug (passenger side closest to cab)... maybe ....
Would it be easier to switch to manual/automatic hubs.
If so what has anyone installed, what to look out for, etc
Surfer in ny the less time out side the better.

AURGATHOR is right about the Automatic hubs. They are a failure point well known to those of use who had them. Most have switched to manuals and have not looked back. i just replaced my manuals with WARNS about 3 years ago. Love em!
Worth the $$ to get rid of ol' "un" faithful auto hubs.

Don't feel bad.....I just closed out a thread in another forum for some of my work stuff, and posted back...I found the problem!....just read up further to see that someone else already told me the fix. DOH!!!
Cheifleif....Check out EBAY when you go to buy them I got mine new from Ebay and they still have the warranty. Just check on Warn's site first for the model number so you get the right ones.

During the wintertime have you found any issues leaving the hubs locked while driving around? Meaning switching back and forth between 2 and 4 depending on the snow on the roads. I switched my hubs during the summer first winter this year. Oh btw I have the manual 4wd (floor shift), '93.

Leaving the hubs locked in over an extended period will cause issues. If you are running around in and out of snow under 45, for say......a couple of weeks....shouldn't be a big deal. But over more time, the hubs will wear prematurely. I know there are those out there that will tell you they have gone all season long with the hubs locked in and at highway speeds but it just puts more stress on the hubs, front axels...etc. It is really a matter of preference and use. Should you decide to do this, go with a set that has a lifetime warranty like the Warn Premiums. I know there is another brand out there but I have only dealt with Warns and have had real good luck with them. This way if they fail....you can always replace them and say they went out with very little use.
