I am losing the old cruiso in my 66 F100, slipping in reverse, with a 390. It is time to upgrade to a C6. In the interest of time and simplicity I am thinking of ordering a "crate" C6 trans and torque converter from one of the vendors such as TCI transmissions. Can I use the flex plate from the Cruisomatic or will I need another one for that application? Has anyone got some things I should look out for when ordering this stuff? Thanks in advance.
Hi Mark, There are several differences, speedo cable, flexplate, shifting arms, drivehshaft connection that are different.
Since you are not going to an overdrive tranny, you may want to reconsider and rebuild the C-O-M. You should be able to find a good local shop that can do it in the $600-800.00 range. Those ol trannys were pretty tuff. How many years has yours been running now??
Thanks for the tips. As far as rebuilding what is in the truck now, I am trying to ID the trans to see what it really is. I bought this truck which had previously been converted from a 3 speed manual by folks unknown to me. The tag number is: PCE AT 1. The number cast into the case is C9AF 7006 A. Maybe a later FMX?
Well, I got under the truck and got another closer look at the numbers. pulled the pan. Found that the number C9AF is actually C3AP or F. That makes it a Cruisomatic, probably 63 or 4 I guess. Pulled the pan and the servos looking for a cracked rear servo due to no reverse. Can find anything cracked so I am putting it back together and will do the band adjustment to see if that helps at all. Thanks.
