fuel heater problem?

engine quit got it running with starter fluid, diesel was shooting out of the fuel heater sensor, not sure if this is the whole problem, would the engine not run if the fuel heater wasn't working?

It wont run if the fule heater ahs shorted out . it will lbow fuse 22 in the under hood fuse pannle.. fuse 22 is the closeest to the engine and in the row closest to the driver.. . be careful useing strater fluild on these engines,, can realy mess them up!!
What senser was fule shooting out from?? there are three wire that atach to the drivers side of the fule bowl.. the top one come off the FPR. {Fuel pressuer regulater}that is mounted to the side ot the Fuel bowl the next one down is a bigger conecter and it is the fule heater.. and I'm not sure what the bottom one gose to..
The FPR one is commen to leak fuel from it is like 58$ form ford they call it a FPR switch. J

I think it was actually coming out of the fuel heater, was sort of a orange or red plug in on the lower part of the fuel filter housing on the driver side. Also when the engine was running on the starter fluid, the engine did not rev when I pushed on the gas pedal.

yeah it won't rev with the pedal since the diesels don't ahve a throttle plate. the pedal eltronically controls the injectors. and DON"T use starting fluid. it is too explosive on enigines with glow plugs. i have heard stories of guys using it one the 7.3 and 6.9 na and getting too much in there then hitting the glow plugs and cracking heads and head bolts. as far as your leak not sure havn't had much experience with the fuel bowl.
