I can't believe I'm asking the question this time, but I have no experience with a truck like this here in Western New York, and a friend of mine is interested in it. Here goes:
1997 F-350 XLT 2WD Crew Cab DRW, with the 7.3 P/S and a 5-speed manual. Approx. 95,000 miles, and he claims it's in excellent condition (no rust, was used to pull a 5th-wheel now and then, spent most of it's life in FL in the hands of a snowbird). He can get it for $12000. Overpriced? Underpriced? What do you guys think? I've never even SEEN a truck like this (2WD 5-speed Crew diesel duallie? They're about as common around here as a Democrat in Wyoming!), so I don't have a clue. Any advice would be helpful and appreciated.
Thats a good question. In my area a 2wd truck is as rare a snowstorm in July. I doubt if you could sell it here. Now in Florida it could ba whole different story since it never snows or gets cold down there very often. To me it seems over priced since its a 2wd an I presume its in your area. My guess would be 9-10,000 tops. I would offer him that.. Im sure regions make a difference on that truck. But demand for it could be good or bad.Good Luck hope he gets the truck.
Just did a search at AutoTrader .com and got back 117 trucks nationwide including both Auto and Manual trans, dually all cab styles
High price 18990, low price 4300 average price 11,869.
Narrowed search to just manual transmission and got 3 trucks all supercabs.
1) 83,000 miles for $15,000 (XLT private party in TX)
2) 49,000 miles for $14,900 (XLT private party in CA)
3) 99,500 miles for $11,500 (XL dealer GA)
4x2 crew cab dualies were really common around here in that era - the manual would be a little unusual, but sure not unheard of. There are still plenty of 'em, but more and more of the newer ones are 4x4's. I looked at a couple back in early summer before I bought my V10. They were auto's with 100,000 miles give or take a few, and were priced at $10,500 and $11,000. From what I've seen advertised lately, they haven't lost any ground. I think a really nice '97 would sell for nearly as much as a comparable '99 would, here.
