Sorry that you couldn't do it. Other than holding his mouth differently, he did what I described to you. I have done this several times over the years.

If you are installing a new key cylinder you must install it as it comes out of the box. It is real easy to turn the cyl with the key in it and it is the out of alignment to go back in. Same thing when you remove it with the paper clip, you must insure that the key doesn't move the cyl before you are ready to put it back in.
I put in one for a friend of mine, he swears he hadn't turned the key, but someone did.

I consider myself a pretty handy guy. I have rebuilt several motors, dirt bikes and much more but I checked everything. But anyway, just when you think you can figure out about anything. If I actually saw someone do it I would see what I was doing wrong i'm sure.
