I have looked through the block heater threads, but couldn't find any info on this..
THe Ford Brochure states that the Engine Block heater is "Standard equipment in 10 Cold Weather states" Does anybody know which states they concider Cold weather??? I would assume Alaska and most of the Northern states, But there are more than 10 I would concider cold weather states..
I looked on the ford site, but could not find anything... Also if it is suppose to be an Option Why doesn't Ford include it when building your vehicle??
2005 Block Heater Option:
All 2005 F-Series and Excursions with the 6.0 PowerStroke have a block heater installed on the engine. However, the cord for the block heater must be ordered as an option (code 41H). The cord is installed on vehicles originally sold in the following states: Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missori, North and South Dakota, and Wyoming. Broadcast Message 1512, 3090.
Thanks I guess MA is not one of them.. I will be arguing the point with my dealer this week..If they are going to bother installing the heater why cheap out and not include the Cord... We all know that diesels don't like the cold.. I doesn't just get cold in these 10 states.. I guess it is the bean counters at work trying to save a few bucks..
Custom, you need to find a dealer that knows their product. The block heater is standard on all diesels it's the cord that's the option. Still scratching my head on that one. Just because you don't live in a "cold" weather state doesn't mean you won't be driving to a "cold" weather state. Anyway, I broke down and bought the cord and installed it myself.
Seems they all come with the block heater but it's up to the dealer if it comes with the cord here in NJ. I was at 5-6 dealers looking at new F-350's and some dealers had them on the trucks and some did not.
I ended up buying from my local dealer 2 miles away where the cord did not come with the truck. They happened to be the only dealer that had the truck I was looking for. Ordered the cord for $50 and installed in about 30 minutes.
I've heard of guys around here never using the block heater.
Others say to use it at around 25-30 and below?
It can get down to 0 here on rare occassions
i checked with the dealer here in virginia and the cord is 108.00 all the blocks have the element installed in them it is for the cable that conects to it all the holes are there to install the plug doesnt seem like a big deal to put it in, but as with gm cost cutting is the order of the day at the ford ploants since they to are going to cut 30,000 jobs. oh yeah the owners manual says 10 below or colder to use the heater.
This would be for the cord only as the element is standard in all of them. You can get the cord about anywhere from any Ford Dealer, International Dealer (VT365 Engine), or online at a few places aftermarket.
Donjamer - where did u get ur truck in MA. My 2005 came with the block heater and the cable.
I bought it in Haverhill (Regan Ford).. They have been great to work with so I don't forsee any problems... My 99 7.3L had the heater also, but I think it was an option then... Now, Ford doesn't give you the option, on the build it website..
