White Numbers on block
discovered that on both the head and on the block it has white numbers printed or stamped onto it. i think the head has 1511
and the block has 9191 on it I think, not sure. I was just wondering if anyone out there new of what these white numbers mean??
any insight to what this means is greatly appreciated..

i guess this doesnt help you much but my guess would be that its not factory....maybe put on there at a rebuild shop possibly...
Wouldn't be funny if it was just a mark for inventory or Pallet
number per what was on the pallet. This info would be used inside a Ford assembly plant.

At the risk of letting the cat out of the bag, I used to work in the material department at a General Motors assembly plant. It was rare, but I used to see similar markings on engines and others parts. I once asked a guy from specs why once in a while we got parts in that had numbers stencilled or stickers plastered all over them, and if I remember correctly he told me that the supply plants sometimes did this when their plant specifications or engineering departments "validated" that a certain part was assembled using the proper components. They would do this when there was a change to the part, was a new part, or there was some sort of production problem that they were trying to zero in on. If this isn't what those white numbers on your motor are, I wonder if a major rebuilder would do something like this so they could apply their own part numbers for assembly purposes. Hope this helps narrow down your numbers.......

I've worked for GM at one time and there is another possibility. The part may have been through some validation process. That is, it was a part that was inspect through a pilot evaluation program. This program would have cataloged and documented the inspection/test and then, after passing hopefully, it would have been returned to the parts bin for assembly.

P.S. This process could have taken place at a rebuild house also. (i.e. Fred Jones)
Why don't you E-Mail Ford direct and see what they say?
