I've got a major problem at the moment. Last week, I smelled raw diesel fumes coming into the cab so I called my mechanic. He took a look and found the fuel lines leaking around the injectors. So we bought a return line kit and put it in. Once he got it in, we started it up, it was running really rough so he instantly thinks to purge the injectors to release the air. He cracks them all and it starts to idle out ok. So we have the engine idling ok but now we've got clouds and clouds of blueish/white smoke all around us. After about idling for 30 mins, we decided to take a run. We went around the block a few times and the smoke subsided....still smoking slightly but not clouds of smoke. So once the truck is warmed up, it doesn't smoke as bad.
But I start it again the following morning and it runs real rough and clouds of smoke again.
Any ideas guys? It didn't smoke this bad prior to putting the return line kit on it.
might have cut one of the o rings while installing a cap. the fuel is again running away from the system, or allowing air into the system OR the system is now sealed and making more pressure, and something else is showing up ... weak injector (slobbering and letting unsprayed fuel into a cylinder). Does it seem to start easy or does it have to crank some to fire up and once running does it stumble for a while?
Quite often the 2-prong sensor that turns on the Cold Timing Advance and the Fast Idle Solenoid will get knocked/pulled loose while changing out the pax side Caps or GPs. And the sucker is hard to see, it's down in the hole just behind where the upper rad hose connects to the engine.
try tightening the new return line clamps. You didn't use the originals - they might not be tight enough to prevent air from coming in slowly. i had this problem
