For anyone who is interested, Hotrodhotline.com has just posted their dec 8 newsletter and it has a very good article about the progress SEMA has made with the Ca registration mess
Fatfenders56- Thanks for the info, great information. Although CA has problems with registration, I think CA has a bigger problem of illegals coming from Mexico who don't even register period, in addition, they are driving without a license or insurance. The sad part is, our court system in CA does nothing about it. A friend of mine recently bought a new Jaguar for his wife. An undocumented hispanic lady ran the red light and Tboned the Jag. The lady had no insurance, no license, no registration. The officer told my friends wife he could do nothing and hopes she has uninsured motorist insurance to cover the damage. An people wonder why our insurance rates are so high? The article is a good start to fixing things, but they have a long road ahead. Thanks again...
I had a 16 year old girl pull out in front of me in the mid 80's when I lived in California. She was driving her parents car with no license, or insurance, both cars were totaled. The insurance company covered me under uninsured motorist. Years later just before the statute of limitations ran out they filed on her for the damages and I had to go back to court to testify. So sometimes they just wait till the person aquires something like real property they can go after.
51- it does work that way sometimes, however if the person is here illegally from Mexico (not to get into immigration laws), the insurance companies usually don't bother going after them because they will just leave and go back to Mexico or not even be able to locate. If it were me, I'd probably go to jail for driving with no insurance... have my license suspended, etc etc... Sure makes it scary to drive anymore.

Yea I know, I spent 5 years with the City of Ontario Police Department. That city a haven for them. I spent 49 years of my life in and around the inland empire.
What gets my goat is having to pay back fee on a car/truck that someone else built up.. This is the only state I have seen it in.. I pass up great buys becouse the back fees were just insane to pay..
How much would it cost me? I have a '67 that I bought in '91. Still have not put the truck in my name. Maybe next year I might get it on the road???? maybe not. I have the Calif. title dated in '91. Gonna cost me maybe $40 or $50 here in AR. Grew up in Cali many years ago. Nice place to visit but other wise no thank you.
Not here in Ca.. if the cars fees are not up to date U must pay of they will not reg or title it.. I drove a truck out here for mass.. I bought it used.. and when I went to transfer it.. I found out it was a old Ca reg truck.. and they wanted 10 years of back fees on it.. thats was over $3500 in fees and fines,,, I only payed $200 for the truck.. I told them there nuts.. and they wouldnt return my mass plates, reg, intill I payed the fees.. I had to have ther truck towed home.. and I sold it to someone up in Or..
Mike.. with the computers of today.. then can tell who owned it for the past 10 years.. What really messed up is how the think the a new owner is to pay all the back fees.. there not even recorse to sue a past owner for the fee.. I tryed.. and the judge told me it was my responsably to pay the back fees.. the only thing I could sue for was any repairs to make it pass smog.. When it comes to the DMV here in Ca.. there the most F up in the 50 states.. Like here one for Ua.. I slod a RV trailer 3 years ago.. well I went doen to renew my Driver lic and they told me I owed back fees on the trailer.. I even turn in that stupid tranfee thingy that in the title but it has no maeming to the DMV.. they dont even keep track of the forms.. So I have to go to the people I sold the RV to and get them to tranfer it to there name.. or Repo it.. Its still titled in my name here in Ca.. And If I have to pay the fees.. im takin the RV..
