Hi everybody, I'm new to the site. I have a '97 F350 crew cab long box 4X4 PSD with the 6637 mod and straight pipe. I don't know much about diesels and you guys have helped solve a few problems I've had in the past. But I have a question about a noise I'm hearing. It is really cold here and this is the only time I have heard the noise. While I'm driving eveything sounds great, it is when I let up on the pedal this hollow noise starts. The exhaust noise sounds like a hollow hissing. When I step on the pedal to give it a little juice the noise goes away and the truck sounds like it always does. I have noticed that the temp. gauge never gets above the cold line. I was hoping someone had an idea what this could be. Thanks
Does it also sound like the engine sound is getting muffuled a bit?? I ;m thinking you might be hearing the EBPV Exahust back pressuer valve it is just past the turbo outlet and it there to help the engine warm up faster..so thay say.. you can dissconect tha wiers that run to it.. thay are back under the inlet of the turbo drivers side,.. and seeifthat helps.. J
Thanks Itfox. It has been in the 0 to negative degrees for the last couple of days. It seems that the truck just isn't warming up, even after driving for 30 minutes. Is there anything I can do to help this?

Welcome to FTE's diesel forums.
It will warm up faster and stay warmer if you block off the radiator. There are a few commercial covers available, but it's cheaper to just use a piece of cardboard.
Like ltfox and wycowboy mentioned, your exhaust backpressure valve seems to be operating normally.
I think I've got the same sound as sean does, except it feels like I'm losing a little power at the same time. It happens whether or not it's hot outside just driving around town @ 25 - 30 mph or so. I can throttle through it, but I end up speeding (no ticket yet). It's just really annoying.
