Transmission Whine

I have an 04 Explorer XLT Sport. 3.0 Flex with 5 spd auto. My problem is a cold weather whine that appears to be coming from my transmission. It sounds like a tuning fork ringing. I bought the truck brand new in january of 04 and had it back to the dealer for this problem within the first month. They found no problems. I even made them a video of the truck making the noise. It seems to happen right around 2200 rpms no matter what gear I'm in. They said they'd keep an eye out for info on my problem. I'm now into my third winter with the truck, I have 53,000 miles on it and the noise seems to be louder than ever this year.
It's to the point where it's like nails on a chalkboard and I'm tired of putting up with it.
Has anyone else experienced this? I had heard of one explorer owner in Northern PA who had the same issue.

I have an 04 XLT that was also purchase in Jan of 04. The first year, there was no problem. Last winter was when it appeared and I've heard it again a few times this winter. You're right, it does sound just like a tuning fork. I've read some other posts on here that make me think it's the idler pulley on the engine. I'm sure it's not the tranmission as there doesn't seem to be any link. The truck runs fine, even when making the noise so it is puzzling. Depending on the weather (if it's cold enough out), I will have it checked at the next oil change. Let me know if you find out anything in the meantime.
