HELP! Whining Noise from 06 F-250
Hey all. I just recently had my truck in (06 F-250) to have a few leaks fixed and a new caliper put on after it seized up and fried my rotor, seal, etc... I had two leaks, one rear main and one oil pump. Drove the truck home and 5 min later I had a baseball sized slick under my truck of fresh oil. This really ticked me off as the leaks before were a drop or two per month. I also noticed an odd whine coming from my truck. I know it's not my imagination because it was annoying the heck out of my fiance as well and she is not very observant to say the least. The noise is a very audible whine that occurs at low to mid range rpms (up to about 1500-1700). The pitch of the whine increases with the rpms and eventually goes away at higher values. It's much more noticeable under slow acceleration and if you accelerate to 1500 rpms and let off the gas, it is pretty loud for a moment and then dies off with the engine speed. I'm very **** about my truck and I'm 100% positive it wasn't there before. I wouldn't worry about it but it's loud enough that it's starting to annoy me. I took the truck back so they could fix the leaks (which they seem to have done right this time) and they told me this sound is perfectly normal on diesels. I'm not buying this as my family had owned diesels for years and I've never heard this sound. If anyone has ever experienced this problem or knows of a fix, PLEASE let me know as I'm very worried about it. If it's nothing to worry about, PLEASE put me in my place. Thanks so much for your help and sorry for the long-winded message.

I checked it a week or two ago and it was good. I'll check it again tomorrow though to make sure. If that was the case, would it whine all the time? Or just when you turn? Because my truck is doing at under acceleration at all times. Thanks for your help.

Finally got time to post and my steering fluid is full. Thanks for the advice though. Never hurts to check. Does anyone have any other ideas? This noise really has me worried and it's not even fun to drive it anymore because I'm waiting for it to blow up (slight exaggeration). Again, any help or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

If the noise is as bad as you describe, you have to be able to post up a video of the noise you hear, before I would be willing to speculate what it could be.
A little word of advice. When returning to the dealer, never say the words "EVER SINCE YOU......" to the mechanic when describing the problem you want addressed. I can tell you that THAT is one of my biggest pet peeves of customers, is when hearing those words at the beginning of their description of their symptom. Although, I very seldomly hear those words from customers, I could tell you stories upon stories of the top ten stupidest "Ever since you ...." accusations that other fellow techs have told me, for a good laugh. But that's a whole 'nother story.
Back to the topic at hand, is the sound a WHINE, or a DROAN? Does it occur while in PARK or NEUTRAL, or while stopped with your foot on the brake in DRIVE or REVERSE? You say it diminishes above about 1700 RPMs. Does it diminish when you rev it up above that speed in PARK as well, or only while driving?

I have a 2005 F350 Super Duty Crew Cab Long Bed thats making a whining sound. You hea r it more at slow speeds, accelerating and decelerating. At approx. 45mph you don't hear it anymore but I wonder if the speed drowns out the sound. Also when I apply the brakes the sound disappears. Could it be a warped rotor? All my fluids are fine. Truck has 43,000 miles. Noise started about 1800 miles ago on a trip from Florida to Minnesota. I can't exactly pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
