This might sound like a stupid question....but I cant really tell if I do. I have felt the brake pedal vibrate a couple of times while offroad doing powerslides and donuts in the mud. But other times the front end has locked up on the road when it was wet and/or covered in snow.
The truck is a '97 F150 XLT 4x4 with the 4.6L and 4R70W.
Im thinking that it has Rear ABS like our old '91 Aerostar. If so....how would I disconnect it without having the ABS light come on?
Follow the brake lines out of your master and if they go into a box with more wires and brake lines I think you have ABS. Call Ford and consult your manual.
Sorry I havent replied. I've been too busy lately.
I havent looked at the truck yet...but we've gotten snow and ice the past 2 weeks and all 4 tires will lock up regardless of speed. I know some vehicles require you to be over 5-10mph before the ABS will work...but this is not the case in my truck.
OK...there is nothing on the front brakes...just the brake lines going to the calipers.
The rear brake lines come out of the M/C and go into another steel/aluminum box just below the M/C, but there are no wires or electrical connections on it.
All while playing on the snow/ice, the brake pedal did not pulsate. The front brakes would lock up very easily, and the rears will lock up when more pressure is applied.
There is an ABS symbol on the dash (you can see it when the sunlight hits it just right) but I have never seen it on.
The Abs light should come on every time you start the truck as it gos through its self test before the truck has moved and also the motor will cycle on after the 20mph mark for another self test. Your truck must not have abs at least not 4 wheel abs the lines comming out of that block how monay are there
