ABS codes 1230 1237?
Ok, I'm working on an 2002 Explorer 4x4 4.0L for a guy. ABS codes 1230 and 1237 came up on my scanner. Says rear sensor no signal, something like that. I changed the rear sensor and drove it. ABS seems to be working properly. Check the code to see if its still there, and it is. Has anyone had a smiler problem?? I know when I had a code on my 98 Mountaineer for a front sensor, the code didn't go away after I changed it. But eventually it did. You cant clear the the abs code like you can the OBD II codes. Does this have to be driven so many miles before the code will go away??? or do I possibly have another problem??

I don't find anything in the service manual that clearly states that it should take a certain distance to clear the code(s). The following pasted text would lead me to believe it will clear the light once the key has been cycled and the vehicle speed of 12 mph reached if the fault is no longer present:
A malfunction in the anti-lock brake system will cause the anti-lock brake control module to shut off or inhibit the system. However, normal power-assisted braking remains.

Correct, the light is off but the code is still there. ABS seems to be working properly, just the code was still there after replacing the rear sensor, test driving it, testing that the abs would activate when I slammed on the brakes. Everything seems to be doing what its suppose to, just the codes didn't go away.... How many miles does it take sometimes for the code to go away?? I ran into this with my Mountaineer once. Light would come on sometimes. Pulled the code said it was a L/F sensor. Replaced it. Code was still there after test drive, but light was out. Then I happen to think about it a couple weeks later, so I checked for codes and it was gone... Don't know how many miles I drove it. I even tried disconnecting the battery to try and clear it, that didn't work either. So as long as the ABS light is off, the system is ok even tho there is a code??

It's probably not a number of miles or time that the vehicle needs to be driven. It's generally something more along the lines of some number of engine starts, self test completions, or braking applications with no further instances of the diagnostic code before it will clear. A professional scan tool should identify a Pending or Historical code separately from an active code, so if the ABS light is not currently on, you should be fine.
