i just recently bought a 89 bronco full size wth the c-6 trans 4x4, the guy said when i bought it he changed the hubs to auto? never owning a 4x4 before with the manual hubs ( use to just engaging from the inside of cab) what does this mean, i still have to spin the hubs to lock to engage the 4x4, so how does the auto part of it work, or did i misunderstand him and he changed from auto to manual, did these trucks come auto or manual hubs stock? also does it hurt the vehicle to leave the hubs locked and just engage the 4x4 when needed from the inside of cab?
It sounds like he changed From auto to manual. Thats good for you. As far as leaving the hubs locked and just engaging the 4w4 when needed, no problem. All you will notice is some extra noise and a slight drop in MPG. Good luck.

Some auto hubs have a automatic and manual override selection on them. I have a 89 burb that I bought new that has automatic only hubs on it but I have had no trouble with them ever.
The hubs on a Bronco are either manual or automatic. Let's leave chevies out of the discussion.
It does sound like he swapped the auto hubs our for manual, which is a good thing. The auto hubs are junk and unreliable. The manual hubs are much better. When you need to use 4x4, get out and move them to the lock position. Then you can shift in and out of 4x4 from inside the cab without getting out. When you're done using the 4x4, get out and unlock the hubs.
I know of people here who leave their hubs locked in all winter. Don't worry about anybody telling you it will wear the front end out. All you'll see is a slight MPG penalty.

It was not the car that was being discussed but rather the hub and its function. Chill out a bit. Automatic hubs are not "automatically" bad or taboo is the point I was making.
