Smile new guy need sub help for supercrew

This site is the best finally a forum with some great answers I do need some help I want to put 2 10 inch subs in behind the back seat of my new to me 2003 f150 supercrew does the premade box with both tens on the passenger side sound unbalanced not sure how to word it will they fit with one on each end? any help would be great still digging threw the archives thanks

I doubt it would sound unbalanced as the sine wave in bass notes are so large, you usually can't tell exactly where the source is, especially in a small room (like your cab). Depending on what kind of music you listen to, you might even be able to use one 10" sub or one 12" and have more than enough.

I agree, and there is a fine line for sub-bass and the box volume. You want that enclosure to be within the perameters of the subwoofer you are putting into it. Too small of a space or too large of a space can make you "hear the speaker" Too small makes the speaker flat or too punchy, too large makes it flappy. Usually with a subwoofer you can get away with going 20% above or below the recommended enclosure space unless it's a subwoofer that is specialy designed for a small space like a Kicker Solobaric. The right space makes it unidirectional like RomerB2 describes. Nothing like hiding the sub in a perfect enclosure and having somebody say "where is it?"

I like to keep my dimensions between 10% of recommended ft^3 for the application. Also there are optimum dimensions for an enclosure too. You find out what sub we're working with and we'll help ya out.

Hey a few weeks ago I installed some pretty cool subs into a guy's rear doors on his Excursion. They are a shallow mount 12" sub from Pioneer. Model number TS-SW124D Things where only 4 inches deep!!! His cousin got them for $100.00 a piece and never used them. They were great for tight bass like rock or punk. Wouldn't recommend them for deep deep bass. I'd love to have some of them for some custom mid-bass drivers. These would be great for your behind the seat enclosure. There are some other ones that used to be made by Planet Audio that I used all the time. They were a NEO subwoofer that had the magnet in front of the cone. Hard to find them anymore though. They are about 3 years old but when I find new ones online I always try to grab them.

Good speakers, shallow mounts are really cool IMO. I agree the box area is more important than anything, so if you could give us your preferred sub we could be more helpful.
And as usual, Romer is right, the bass will sound good no matter where you place the speaker. Especially to the average person who will ride in your vehicle, it's just cool that you have subs. Since bass, unlike your other speakers, isn't directional, it'll be loud and clear despite the location.

My Memphis M-Class are 5.5" deep. I think that one 12" will do you fine Grant. Spend a little bit of money on a good 4ohm DVC sub and get an amp that will provide good power at 2 ohm, and you will be set. My amp is stable at 1 ohm, but that is an incredibly hard to find trait. I run two 4ohm DVCs and it is amazingly loud for a single cab ranger. My best was at 142 dB. If you get alot of power, you'll experience some dimming in the lights. I run just at 1200 watts RMS in my truck between my subs and the high amp. A capacitor would help. For your money, I would reccomend the Memphis sub. You can find the DVC 12" like I have for under $100 if you look hard enough. Good luck with it.

A cap won't help, that's marketing. The big 3 upgrade and upgrade in battery and alternator is going to be what helps you.

My buddy has a 2001 chevy ext cab truck and he has two 8" boston acoustic small box sealed enclosure, only runnin like 600 watts thru an older kenwood amp probably around 300 rms tho. and they sound great plenty of punch for what ever you wnt to listen to. As for me i run a 12 sealed in my 88 extcab ford with a measly 140 rms to it and it is plenty the only thing that i can hear when driving Might be a Harley passing me, most people really spend way toomuch for a huge dynamic system when you really dont need much to make a huge difference over a stock vehicle. I find that if you run a high pass crossover for the front (and rear if ya got them)speakers,then runn at least an amp and a small sub youll probably be pleased, unless you need some serious bass then dont waste your money on 1000 watt amp and 4 12 woofers . Right now im runnin an old rockfordfosgate punch trans ana 40x2 into one of those cheap truck boxes from walmat with two 8" woofers and horn tweeters, then i have a nice pioneer mp3 cd headunit runnin two 6x9 in the doors. its and old beater dodge 4x4 that rattles more than a volkswagon. but i got like 53$ into the equipment(except for the pioneer) and it sound fine. I wont enter any competitions with it but its got plenty of bass and it drounds out the body rattles and exhaust leaks. lmfao
Bottom line is dont let a bunch of "STEREO" shop guys talk you into spendinn a bunch of cash for somethin you dont need. it all takes up space. smaller can be better.

thanks for the help i just listen to classic country and grunge as we use to call it im very diverse just had some sound issues in my wifes scion xb piece of junk got it gone and bought her a 2 wheel 2003 super like mine tuff to buy 2 trucks at once but i got more for the scion then when i bought it just glad to a ford man again got alot of add ons to do have a gallery soon the archives have already given me some great answers

those pioneers are amazing I have always loved the premier grade for mids and tweets i worked for rollin sound as a teenager built alot of systems then but Im so shocked at the technology changes in car audio that i feel like a bagboy turned rocket scientest when trying to pick speakers and amps sometimes you might know how to still ride a bike but it will still take some practice well got to get rid of some equipment first then get the new for my 4wd supercrew apreciate ya
