I used to get shocked all the time, and i've wanted to know for sure if this worked, or if it was just coincidence that my shocking stopped at the same time I started doing this..maybe if you do it and it stops, it will solve the problems...it comes natural to me now...before I touch a door **** or anything, I snap my fingers...
This happens any time I get out of my mom's chebby suburban. So when ever I get out of it now, I make sure to put my finger on the bolt in the door handle. No more shock. It also helps if you lift yourself up and not slide off the seat.
I only get shocked, and nasty it is, when I'm wearing a pair of boots made to grip on shingle roofs - a foam type sole. Whenever I wear my regular boots, Wolverines, no shock. I REALLY hate myself when I forgot 'cause it shocks the crap out of me. As others have suggested, I grab hold of a metal part of the door before exiting the vehicle, when I do this there is no shock.
My wifes 89 buick was know to do this I would let her get out first and you could hear the zap she got pretty loud now she has a jeep liberty and just noticed this week its worst then the buick it will zap both of us pretty good and I try to use my arm to close the door.
Well I've been pretty busy, but I did get a chance to try the fabric softner sheet suggestion. I had it in the rig for one day, until the wife forgot it and went to the gym with a cling free stuck to her butt.(you had to be there...) But I must say, it has worked quite nice over the last few days. Yesterday I noticed a slight shock when I exited the vehicle, but the sheet has only been on the seat for one day and that was 5 days ago. I'm starting to think that I'm the one generating static, then discharging when I get out.
The experiment continues.....

Reminds me of autoshop when we put the car wheel up againest the sparkplug machine. Somebody would ground the wire on the stand and someone else would ask bystander to bring them the wheel!!!!! Hey, we never killed nobody! he he he
I think they do make a static spray, no sure how good or long it works.
