Yetserday after driving my 06 F-150 for a short trip I let it sit for an hour or two and went to go to work and it ran rough and was making a sqeeking noise from the engine. They let it sit and today they said that there was aproblem wit it from the drivers side and they took the valve cover off and will cold start it again in the a.m. to see if they can pin point it. At this point I have lost all faith in the FORD truck product line. I have just come off of a bad stint with the 6.0. I am at my wits end. I dont want to have my 06 all torn down. Has anyone else had this problem with there 06. It has the 5.4, its a Lariat, Auto, Loaded. I love the truck but I dont want the thing all torn apart. Is there anything that I can do to extend the warranty, or get them to buy it back and just give me my money and I will go and buy a Toyota or something. Very Disappointed.
Several years ago, we picked up 3 new Chevys at a dealership 7 miles from the office. Only 2 of them made it to the office. It can happen to anything. If the problem had surfaced before you picked it up, they would have fixed it and you wouldn't have known the difference. If everyone expects perfection from everything every time, there won't be any $30,000 trucks, they will start about $40,000.

Well that sucks, gotta spend 40Gs on a reliable truck? That is the most ignorant thing I have heard, you've got to spend $40Gs to have a reliable truck?
Its called ISO 9001, quality engineering and eliminating defects, major car manufacturers like Toyota use it to produce quality products.

Who said anything about a reliable truck? I was talking about a "perfect" truck. If you expect perfect, you will pay more (and still not get it). With ISO 9001, Toyota has doubled their safety recalls in the last year. I intended to replace my T-100 with a new Tundra instead of an F-150 but paying an extra $5,000 for a 3/4 size truck didn't make economic sense to me.
ISO 9001 does not guaranty quality, it only guarantees a procees is in place that the manufacturer creats to address for consistancy. Ohter words product XYZ could be a very inferior product and be very unreliable, but if they have the processes in place to keep that inferior product at that level, 9001 has done what it meant to do! It's a myth that 9001 is a guarantee of quality or better product!

You are exactly right, but wrong at the same time. ISO 9001 does strive for consistency...consistency in producing a quality product. Do you think that Ford wants to produce poor quality consistently, NO, they want to produce a quality product consistently. Think about what you are saying, then you will understand. Im in no way saying that ISO 9001 alone is the answer, but if Ford produces some good products and some bad, than ISO 9001 needs to be implemented, along with many of the other product manufacturer techniques, to consistently produce quality products. They also need some help on their engineering skills. Go research Toyota, they dealt with this exact problem(defects), and they designed and implemented their own plan and it as really worked and is becoming a benchmark for other auto manufacturers.
Ford and the other members of the Big 3 use QS 9000 and 14001. 19000 is on the way. ISO is the same thing, but to a less rigorous standard. All the systems say is that you know what you're doing. You can produce 95% scrap, but still be within your quality system. Toyota and Honda have recalls and other problems. The only real advantage I've been able to see (and I've been in the plants as a supplier representative) is the level of involvement of the employees. The non-union employees seemed more willing to step in with assistance and feedback on issues. The UAW needs to simply realize that working together (the whole Toyota teamwork theory is sound) is better for everyone. That being said, if you drive a foreign car, I hope your children are unemployed.
It is a 40,000 truck so now do I have to spend 50,000 to get a truck that will run through 1 full tank of gas before it needs a camshaft and lifters. I dont think so. This is not acceptable and the customer (me) should not be the one that does the QC for the manufaturer. I had to wait an extra week just to take delivery of my 40,000 truck because there was no grease in my wiper motor and FORD wouldnot overnight the part, and I had to drive another 45,000 truck the leaked coolant perfusely with only 7800 miles on it because no one could fix it. So who really suffers here? Now they tell me that they have need a special tool to do a leak down test which can not be overnighted and so I have to spend another week without my 40,000 truck. So I ask you how much do I need to spend to get a truck that will run for a WEEK BEFORE IT HAS TO HAVE THE ENGINE TORN DOWN. Its not how much you spend and you are wrong for saying that. I am a technition and have been for 11 years at the same dealership. If FORD wants to be #1 in customer service like they advertise there are things that can be done... like get the tools to the dealership when they need them, GM does it they even have the special tools out before the new product is out, they can have the grease ready before they start to deliver vehicles. Its always the customer that gets the short end of the stick. This is my 4th new Truck I have bought from ford and with every new truck the quaility is worse and worse. Once upon a time it was Quality is Job 1 what a joke. If a truck needs an engine or major engine work at 233 miles FORD should step up and buy it back and give the customer a new truck. Simple as that!!! Thanks for letting me vent
I more than sympathize. The 06 that I have now is a replacement for the 04 I bought 18 months ago. My problem was with the transmission. It was repurchased after the 4th issue with me. Turns out that an additional repair attempt was made before I bought the truck. Yep, it had problems driving off the transport trailer. I didn't like it, but I do understand. I spent many years as an engineer with different suppliers, and I'm now with a major consumer products company as a quality manager. I know how hard it can be to get it perfect every time. We ship 50,000-60,000 units per day, all hand assembled, made in the USA. We also spend a fair amount on warranty issues, but it's not for a lack of trying. Again, I stand by my point of buying US made. All man made products have problems, but the auto industry is one of the largest driving forces in American manufacturing, and shipping those jobs (or the money that is actually made in profit for building the vehicles) overseas is a bleeding death that I hope we can stop.
it was a slow day a work , so I read up on Pearl Harbor. it made me tear up a little. sneak attack ; guttless . Say a prayer for those brave men ; over 2400 dead.
and PLS , buy American. (I know y'all do , but pressure your friends and family ).

If your last 4 new trucks were Fords and they got progressively worse and GM supplies all the special tools before the vehicles are released (must have a different GM up north), why in the world do you keep buying Fords?
Well, I like the truck my 99 was the best truck I have ever owned, it also was a F-150, my 03 F-250 wasnt bad but the truck needed rear brakes every 3,000 miles and my 04 6.0 was the worst with the coolant leaks. I would never buy a chevy truck had 1 and the transmission was replaced 4 times before I decided to buy the 99. As far as the special tools there is not a different g.m. up here but it seems that they may have a little bit of an edge as far as having most of their Stuff together before releasing a new product. Now I am not sure but is the 06 5.4 all new for 06 or will the leak down tester for an 05 work on this engine. Maybe you would settle for the we dont have the right tool or cant get it for a week or 2 but I wont, especially since I am stroking out a check for a 40,000 truck I havent even driven for a week. Every company is allowed to overnight parts just that the dealership may have to absorb the cost. Its time that FORD step up and practice what they preach. Every time I call the hold music always says they are #1 in customer satisfaction and I find that hard to believe. I know that it is a machine and things happen been there done that but atleast the company I work for tries to sympathize with the customer and try to make it right. (I work for Saturn in case you are wondering). So I guess if I am wrong or offend you I am sorry but I just dont think that ford has it together.
