block heater

does anyone know if block heaters are standard in a 2002 f350 powerstroke

i looked on mine for the plug in but couldnt seem to find it
would the blocke heater already be in the block without a cord or is the cord hiding

its going to the dealer tommorow for a fuel leak and im going to ask them for a price to oput one in but if it just needs the cord i can do that myself quite easily

thanks

I'm not 100% sure, however I believe that is a $35.00 option. If you bought the truck used, carfax it and see where its been registered. If its in a cold climate, I'd think it should have one. Mine was hiding behind the black plastic right under the front tow hook on the drivers side. The last owner zip-tied it in place.

Yeah, thats where I found mine. It really blends in. You might be able to see the black plastic tubing that covers the wire. If not, best place to look is above the oil filter. There should be a plug that points out towards the side of the truck. Follow this forward to the plug.

Starting in 99 the block heater became standard on diesel Superduty's. The only way it doesn't have one is if it was special ordered with the cold ambient package deleted....which is pretty unlikely.

Yes, it was standard on the '02. You may have to lie on your back with a flashlight to see it. It's located under the drivers side headlamp behind the bumper. I've had to show more than one person where it is.

There are 3 places it could be, depending on who installed it I suppose. Toward the center by a couple of inches near the fog lights (either side) or in the center of the bumper, have seen all three. It's a black ribbed plastic tubing zip tied in place. Look real good, it's there. The zip tie breaks easily so you can get it extended. Start first with the driver's side tow eye, look toward the left as you are facing it. go in through the tow eye opening. You may not see an actual plug because it has a pop-on cover on the ends.

Be careful how much you use the heater, I have read on here that it really sucks down the electricity. Perhaps put it on a timer to fire up 2-3 hours before you want to drive it.

EDIT: Watch what circuit you plug into, you'd want to keep the total draw below the breaker or fuse blow point, ie microwave, blowdryers, etc...
Add 'em all up for a total on THAT particular circuit.

Yeah, it does draw a bit of power, somewhere around 8-900 watts. Get yourself a heavy duty timer from home depot. My dad and I each have our own (we work different hours) and they work great. Its an Intermatic timer model T-103. They run around $45, but you wont have to worry about overloading it. Set it to go on three hours before you plan to leave and it'll work just fine.

I looked everywhere for it and can't find it. Around the tow hook and from the center of the bumper out. I even opened the hood ond looked around the battery and headlight. It is either good at hiding or not there.

One sure way of knowing is looking for the plug that connects at the block, if u look near the oil filter u should see an orange wire coming out of the block. Not there then u have to get a cord. Should already have heating element.
