I've got a carter 600 thats kinda used so I'm just going to use it until i get my engine broken in----it should work just fine until I figure out if i want holley or a demon--or maybe I'll just keep the carter if it works ok , fd:-X11
I tell you I love the Carters, the design seems complex but it really isn't. I have one on another vehicle beside my truck, Just havn't wanted to fork over the dough for an aluminum FE intake just to run one on the Truck. That carter is easy to rebuild and if you want you can call the Federal Tech Line and speak with a technition on tuning issues related to the carb. For about $50 you can buy a street/strip kit that contanes various combos of jets and rods to taylor it to your exact needs. The metering rods have differnt "steps" to give you differnt performance curves for idle, cruise and WOT all in the same metering rod. And if you dont want to get that detailed it will run great just as is! But hey I'm kinda biased on this one, Love them AFB's I was a holley guy until I installed my first carter and since thats all ive used
fatdaddy, The street avengers come in 570,670,770 and 870cfm. They are basically a holley 4160 with a quick change secondary spring and are calibrated from the factory to give you the best start possible. They probably have some other upgrades too. I run the 770 on my 390 and I love it. Throttle response is unbelieveable even though I have mine on a 1" spacer and the edel RPM manifold. http://www.clubfte.com/users/ratsmoker/Pict0002.JPG
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jan-02 AT 01:49 PM (EST)]Rat, rat, rat, we're talking about the TRUCK avenger...its a different pony. Right now I'm only aware of it in the 670cfm version. Oh, and when your done fixing your valvetrain will you puleeze put some new gears in your truck...it pains me seeing such a fine engine spinning 3.25
I went to hollley's website and couldn't find a "truck" avenger carb. I guess I'll find it later. Believe me that no one wants better gears than I do. The guy that I bought my valvetrain from got into an accident and broke both collarbones so it may be a while.
