What year is it?

*When was it last tuned, including a fuel filter replacement?
*Have you done a visual on the engine looking for obvious distress (for example, loose vac line)?
*Have you checked fuel pressure?

Not to offend, but punctuation would make the post much easier to read .

Heres the problem, its a 4 banger. My dads 2000 3.0 5 speed when in 5th can barely keep itself going at 55-60 MPH, then add a hill on top of that it definantly looses speed. I'm sorry, welcome to FTE, and exactly how long is forever, are we talking like 15 seconds, or like 2 min, or like 3 sec? The 4 banger, however extreemly reliable and long lasting isnt known for its power output, but i think at 65 MPH in 4th gear it shouldnt take that long for it to accelerate up to 70. I'm not sure how well it will hold 70 MPH in 5th either. Is there a way you can tell us what tire size you have and what gear ratio you have? I"m sure others with a 4 banger will be along to help you out and tell you if thats normal or not.

It takes about 30 seconds from 65-70mph and everything is stock on this truck. The tires are 15"

Is this a new problem (i.e. came on AFTER tuning it last week) or was the tuning an attempt to fix the problem? What did the "tuning" consist of?

What gears are you running? As Peter said, the 2.3 is a bit of a dog on the highway (and everwhere else) but yours sounds unusually slow. Any check-engine lights?

If you have a tachometer, bring it to the same RPM in third and see how it accelerates. If it is slow then too, look at fuel pressure.

Since you say it is good off the line, the brakes probably aren't dragging, but it's worth checking.

One more question- how many miles?

15" is the size of your rim, if you look on the tire, it should say like 215/75 R15 or somthing like that. If you also look on the sticker on your drivers side door, there is a spot that says "axle" and will give you a code, more thank likely somthing like 91, 93, 95, etc. It might be a number and a letter, but this is doubtful. I"m basically just trying to determine where the powerband of your truck is going to be. If you have 33" tires and 3.08 gear ratio's then yes, it would be perfectly normal for your truck to not move at all. Now if you have the 215/xx R15's and like a 3.73 or even a 4.10 gear ratio, then it should do pretty good off the line and should be able to accelerate just fine at high speeds.

Hey Bud,
this is in response to your post on trying to keep speed/acceleration at higher speeds.Ive got a 96 Ranger 2.3L 5Sp.I took a trip to Wyoming from Albuquerque,Nm for thanksgiving.this had been my first major roadtrip since purchasing my baby. Now,lemme tell you if you dont already know. This whole Drive for the most part is going through the Rocky Mountains.Alot of it I spent in 4th Gear and That was keeping me at about 60-65.So slow going for some of it.I didnt have much power on the drive up to Laramie. Some of that is the elevation. But as its been said partner,Keep in mind. Those 2.3 4 Bangers are only packing maybe 115 Pony's under that Hood.So don't get too concerned. My Ranger also Struggles on the freeway, though when Elevation isnt a factor.I can usually fairly easily keep 75-80 on the Freeway..Ive got a K&N AirFilter..It helps dude.I promise.

Still that accelearation isn't good enough. He should be able to get faster quicker, even with that 4 banger.
