Louis,
To my knowledge, no 302 has ever pumped the heads. What your describing is probably the air injection system. Ford injects air into the heads and into the exhaust ports to prolong burning of combustibles and reduce emmisions. I thought the air was injected at the front of the heads, though. Can anyone else jump in on this subject?

351W's used a system where air was pumped into the exhuast at the back of the heads. There was a tube that ran from one side to the other and had a fitting that looked like a vacuum dashpot in the center. The only thing is; I didn't think it came into use until the earlyh '80's. I have a number of 302 and 351W's and only one had this setup. I think it was the '87 Windsor but I'm not sure I'd have to check.
