What kind of deck ?
CD...... Cassette ?

There will be cutting to do for a CD.

Pioneer makes a **** style cassette deck that will mount right in the slot without any modifications

There are a few threads about a CD/MP3 player installation in this forum if you wish to this.

Me, I like to keep these trucks as close to factory as possible.

If you want to put the deck in the 'factory position' you will need to modify the mounting bracket (a metal bracket behind the plastic dash panel that holds the heater controls and radio. It is separate from the dash.). I did this by cutting off the bottom half where the original radio sits and used some extruded angle aluminum to make a new bottom half that would fit the new stereo. If you are worried about messing up, you can pick up another bracket at your local junk yard I'm sure.

If you have factory AC, you may run into a problem where the stereo won't fit all the way in because it hits the vent behind the dash. For this, I took out the vent, and used a heat gun to make an indention in the vent allowing my stereo to fit all the way in.

After all that, you will need to cut the plastic dash panel so the new stereo can poke through and if you want to put a nice finishing touch, it is a good idea to make a new plastic plate that fits around the stereo. For that, I bought a paper notebook with a thick black plastic cover, and cut a new place with an exacto knife. It worked out really well.

This is a lot of babbling, but I will take some pictures tomorrow if I remember.

I have a 78, but yours should be no different. As mentioned earlier, there are many MANY other threads regarding this subject, so see what else you can find here.

if no AC,just cut radio bracket just under lip in middle.
where the big center hole is,cut across towards outside level with top of hole.
then cut lower part in halve, then weld back together with the two pieces moved out about an inch(you will have to drill new holes in mount to line up with old holes on bottom)cut out hole for new radio, install factory rear mount so it doesn`t bounce
i`l try to get pics of mine when sun comes up

Arck! I forgot to take pictures! I will do that tomorrow (today rather... past midnight)! I Promise!

Welding is a good option if you know how to weld. I’m better at sawing and drilling than welding, hence my choice in bracket fabbing

i have read this before about the favtory a/c and radio not fitting, i installed a new pioneer cd in my 77 f150 and everything fit fine, i even used the stock mounting thing behind the stereo, all i did was cut the dash and make a new trim plate for it.

Ok, well I don't know how to keep my word. Shame on me.

I was going to go right now and take pictures, but I noticed that my dad apparently took the camera on a work trip and he'll be back around Sunday. I'll try to steal my friend's camera on Friday and get some pictures up.

Yeah, not everyone has that problem, it depends on the stereo's depth. Mine was 3/4 inch or so too deep.

Ive got a Kenwood Head unit in my 75. Just had to cut the metal support in the dash, and the plastic dash surround.

I put a pioneer cd in my 75. I welded some metal on the sides of the metal bracket to beef it up before i cut the center out, and then cut out the plastic. i am still looking for some thin black plastic to cover the sides of the plastic hole that show. the back never hit any and i have A/C
