73-79 crewcab

I have a 1976 F350 Factory longbox 2WD that I am selling. It has a factory 460, factory A/C, delay wipers, and extra's. If interested let me know. Ottous1@yahoo.com. Thanks

annafd1, what year is your crew? I'm afraid your hitch rep doesn't know what he is talking about. I can honestly say that mine is a 1978 F250 Crew 4x4, shortbox. I have verified this using the VIN and all the VIN decoding materials I can find, build dates, etc. that mine is a '78 with a 37" frame. The two VIN numbers stamped into the frame also match the cab/body VIN number. This truck is all original. The front of the frame is 34" but it widens to 37" just at the back of the cab back to the end of the frame. So, my frame would need a 37" hitch installed. My truck also has dual tank setup. This I can confirm is factory - I have the original factory build sheet for this truck. Seems odd that everyone else that has 78 crews only have one tank (midship) with 2 doors in truck bed. Weird. I guess I must be a lucky one the way mine was built.

annafd1, the difference must be 2x4 vs. 4x4 in frame size then.

1978 Crew cab Brake Cable length

Can anyone provide me with the correct length (or at least darn close) for the front and the two rear brake cables for a 1978 Crew cab 4x4??? Mine are completely shot and missing parts of them and noone has ever made a set (not even Inline Tube). I need to get them some measurements so they can build me a set. Thanks!

VIN numbers on frame?

Where do I find the VIN on the fame?

Daddy04, you will find the VIN stamped into the right frame rail on the top side one being near the right front cab mount and the other one further down the frame rail to the rear which will be under the cab. My box and cab are off the frame and frame was sandblasted so was real easy to find them. This number should match the VIN of the truck cab, etc.

I am restoring a 1978 4wd and I need to find the chrome trim piece that fits between the front and back doors. It is about 4" long and I have been looking everywhere. If anyone has one on a parts truck they would part with let me know.

Johaner78, I will look to see what I can find for your brake cables. Thanks for the info on the VIN #. I have a frame that I am going to build my truck on, but the cab mounts are all wallered out from the bushings holding moisture against them. I am welding steel plates over the holes, but I dont know what size hole to drill for the cab mounting bolts. Are your holes still good?

I ordered the tru-torque cables from partsamerica.com. These are the rear cables that go from the center cable to the wheels. Fit like a glove and work nicely. I think they had the other cable as well. Hope this helps.

My '78 F250 4x4 short box crew cab has 2 filler doors as well as 2 tanks, and it ain't afraid to use them.

tjay460 and others - thanks for the replies concerning brake cables for crew cabs. I had some made by Inline Tube. I have a parts book on CDROM and got the lengths from that and had Inline Tube make them. They look like the originals. I should have posted this earlier. Thanks anyway!

tjay460 - did your crew come with factory air or did you add it? I'm thinking about adding factory air to my Custom cab? Am i nuts for doing that?
