Okay, I'm not good with Ford engine swaps (what will/won't easily, and what will bolt to what), but Dad has a 351C from an early 70's Stang I believe.
I was thinking about trying to get the 351C from him to replace my tired 390, but I'm not sure what engine mounts would be needed, and if it would bolt to my C6. I'm thinking the 351C is the same block as the 400 that was used in 77-79 F-Series trucks, but don't know for sure.
So, would I be able to swap this out just using 400 engine mounts, and my 390 C6? Or am I looking at more trouble than it's worth for an old parts chaser...
The stands from a 302 or 351m 400 are the same and that is what you need for this swap. No the trans will not work ether, it needs to be a 289, 302 351w.
Well, a friend of mine has a C4 from a 73-79 truck. Might see if he'll part with it. Or will the bell housing from the C4 bolt to the C6 letting me keep my tranny?
First I need to see what Dad wants for the 351C I guess.
So, would I need the whole stand that bolts to the crossmember or just the mount that bolts to the top of the stand?
you will need a new tranny, mopunts, new drive shafts, radiator , accesory brackets. then after its all said and done you realize the 351c is a poor truck engine. i would think finding anohter 390 would be better.

[snip]
Nope. The C6 is a one piece case. The bellhousing doesn't unbolt from the rest of the trans.
Well, Dad has the complete 351C already. I just thought if I could use it I would. Sounds like too much work. If I found another good 390 I would consider it, but doubt I'd go looking for one right now. I just bought this truck for bad weather, and hauling parts.
If it sticks around long enough I'll put a 302 in it, but at this point I've already got it sold next summer to a buddy of mine who's got a '79 low mileage 460 truck with a wrecked cab... He's got big plans for it...
