Go to the 6.0 diesel forum, check out the post "new truck".
I've got to replace a newly aquired crack in the windshield before the appraisal, then its off to the dealer to order a shiny new F250, V10, 4.30LS, 6 speed!!!
THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION I'VE FOUND HERE!!!
You're stirring up a hornet's nest over there in the 6.0L forum. They like to believe that every bolt and screw is made by Ford and that the 6.0L is the greatest diesel ever. Most (I didn't say all) diesel owners are very sensitive to criticism, constructive or otherwise, regarding their choice of powerplant. Which you'll find out once the "regualrs" begin checking in. I'm just thankful for the awesome truck to put whatever powerplant in it.
Congradulations on staying in MI, I think and on the new truck. You won't be disappointed.
hornets nest is not the wording. i used to be the moderator in thar section. you would not belive what i went though because i owned a v10. 2 of them even drove me to a M.I. otherwise known as i heart attack.
that post will be removed very fast. thats a out right miss use of our guidelines and will cause a flame fight
BDude, Best of luck with your order. You are going to love that new V10. I agree with you on the 6.0. I think it is a real dud and I was sure glad to dump mine.
I like the Cummins. My brother had a 98 Cummins, put lots of hard miles on it towing his Fiver and the only problem he had was losing his OD gear on the standard tranny.
6 months ago he bought a new 05 Cummins Automatic , so far so good.
As far as stirring up the 6.0 believers, I don't even bother posting up there and they rarely come down here anymore to trash the V10. I think they are embarassed because polls have shown there are as many V10 owners on this site as there are 6.0 owners and they have far more posts about problems than we ever do.
I have always felt the weak link in the 6.0 reliability chain is the variable vane turbo which gave me trouble. The 6.4 replacement engine is going with fixed vanes in both turbos that this engine will have. I truly believe that in a few years as more 6.0s drop off warranty and people start replacing this problematic variable vane piece of garbage with their own money, there will be a lot of very nice Ford SDs out there for sale , real, real, cheap. Consider this, a new Turbo costs more than a lot of crate gas engines. Oh well, they're saving so much on fuel right now aren't they.
I rarley ever get into these flame wars but enough is enough all you V10 people out there forget about all the problems the V10 had at its debut.Spark plugs blowing out of the heads, Y pipes ,sounding like some threw a hand full of rocks in it, crank shaft bearings giving problems and that was just on my V10. I had a 99 and a 2001 both V10s gave problems as a matter of fact ford put 6 sets of heads on the 2001 till they could get a set that would not blow the spark plugs out I finally had enough of it and tried the 6.0 diesel and have never had any regrets like I did with the V10s. It took for a couple of years to get the bugs out of the V10 as it did with the 6.0 it did have problems, but ford worked most of them out and now the 6.0 is doing fine and most problems you hear with the 6.0 is because someone chipped the engine and ford would not honor their warranty, there is people out there with over 100,000 miles on some 6.0s and they are trouble free and mine has 30,000 miles on it and it pulls a fifthwheel camper or a 30 ft cattle trailer around here in the hills of TN. and I never had any trouble out of it and it does it better than any of the V10s did .I have alot of friends that still have the V10s some of them like the motor but a big part of them are going to trade for diesels for the pulling power and dont tell me the V10 has what the 6.0 has because I will tell you ,your full of @*#% you can put all the banks crap you want or spend 3500-4500 dollars on a supercharger and it will just barley make the torque a stock 6.0 will on the other hand you can take a stock 6.0 chip it and it will make 750-800 ft lb of torque and that is on a rear wheel dyno and any chip manufactor has this at their websites .
