It is easier, and most of us at the dealerships do it this way. It is much easier to do and saves on your back. There aren't as many bolts to remove as you may think to do it this way. We do it on the pickups too.
whats bad is for 1500? more they could of put in a complete engine with a 3/36 warr. from ford.i have put in prob. done 30 engine jobs for burnt valves, but they were under warranty.
Wow --- totally amazes me that they would lift the body to work on the engine --
Is that the ford procedure ?????-- or the way the tech does it to meet the labor hours allowed for the job ???? Will the engine come up out of the engine bay???

It's easier, faster and better to do the job this way. I would imagine that this could be done on any newer vehicle.
Finally got the Navi back this morning after almost a month. I also got a new rear bumper cover, since the dealer damaged the old one when they were pulling the body off.
The Navi runs A LOT better now. The pedal seems softer and the engine feels like it has more power. No more rough idling.
The bad news is that I found more damage caused by the tech. The center console lid is scratched and the newly painted rear cover has a visible scratch. Now I have to take it back on Tuesday for them to fix these problems.
I looked at the final invoice and the cost to repair was over $3500. All I had to pay was my deductible of $100. I'm going to try to have the dealer reimburse me for it because they acknowledged that they dropped the ball on the timeliness of the repair, and plus, their additional screw ups.
When they put mine back together you couldn't tell it was ever apart.
Unfortunaly my bill was a bit higher ($7200 as I remember).
Regarding the frequency of the burnt valve problem, I don't know how frequent it is; however, it is frequent enough that it is a 'known' problem that will manifest itself with low compression in cyclinder 7.
As this is a cooling problem near cylinder 7, I presume there is nothing that can be done to prevent it. A design flaw perhaps? Inaddequate water flow? Is there a TSB on this problem?
