All,
The Ford 429 was first introduced in 1968 in the T-Bird. The 429/460 is of course bigger design of the cleveland (335) and is in the (385) family. It is a smog motor and is considerable a more modern design than the "FE" family.
The 460 has been in production nearly as long as the 429, starting its production run in late 1968. Performance parts are available but relatively scarce.
To my knowledge the 460 has always been available in a truck.

P.S. the casting numbers will have a "T" in it if it was designed for a original truck application.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Jan-02 AT 07:06 PM (EST)]Hey, its not MY fault Ford had to go off and only put 460's in half the trucks, i bet they did that just to confuse me.
