which code reader

Hi, couldn't really find the answer from forum search so here goes.
89 302 man/trans I've got high idle so guess vacuum/sensor prob and want to pull codes,I know you can use a paperclip but would rather just buy code reader and be done.
What you guys recommend?Would help if could get shipped to UK.
Thanks for listening Big G

Innova

INNOVA makes code readers at a reasonable price. You should be able to find them online.

Whichever one you like best. One is pretty much like another. They just do with buzzers and lights what the paperclip does with the "Check engine" light on the dashboard. Might check with muckeypaws about the availability. He's over there too and may know some resources that will either ship to you or may even stock them "across the pond".

This is the one I use:

I'd also suggest you get the extension cable so you can work it from within the cab - useful for some tests as you have to press pedels or buttons etc during the test. Also good if it breaks down in the rain buy the side of the road - you can diagnose in the dry.

When I bought mine I also got a set of quick disconnect tools for the fuel & A/C lines too - I think the whole lot shipped cost about $170 including shipping ($80) but it still was much cheaper than buying in the UK even with the shipping.

since those links I'd added divert to the sponsors page (which is ok, except for in this case I've not found a sponsor that stocks what I am discussing and am therefore reluctantly forceed to shop elsewhere) go to www. midwayautosupply. com and search for 'ford code reader' and look for the part nos. EQU-3145 & EQU-3896.
For the fuel disconnect tool browse on the same site to tools/fule system components and look for WIL-W89330.

Appologies if this should be a new topic but code reader not here yet so set about having a look to see if there was anything obvious
You could say there was the air bypass valve was cracked off just below the top bolt, leaning out at a bad angle and not even touching gasket

Looks like this may be a good place to start.
The part no. is E9TE-9F715-B1A if anyone has a one for sale with a new gasket. This is a result of a persistant back fire on lpg(think you call it propane)which just normally blows the airbox lid off I'll be looking for a couple of second hand lids LOL-89 302 efi
So if you got anything and want to put it on eblag let me know.
Alternatively, anyone know if Napa will ship to UK,cos Muckypaws recommended Midwayautos but couldn't find anything on their site.

Thanks for listening Big G

Any OBDI reader will include transmission codes. They certainly do for my 92 Bronco with E40D.

I also have an 89. I found a code reader and cable at Amazon .com 24.95 for reader and another 34.95 for cable but if you buy together it was 47.95 and free shipping. If you can't find it let me know I think I have the link atashed somewhere.

Okay- so I have "OFF" flashing on the stalk. Do I need to pull codes only when then "OFF" is in flash mode-that is while driving.

The "OFF" flashing happens 10-15 miles into a drive. The "OFF" flash is not illuminated during start up. Usually a "clunk" of the shift then the "OFF" flashes
