Why isn't the system that's in place at the dealerships, which locates a specific vehicle within a certain mileage radius, available online for the rest of us? The last time I purchased (02') a new vehicle for my mother the local dealer would NOT get up his duff and make a transfer agreement with another dealer for the car we wanted. Matter of fact he would NOT even use their locator system. After much inventory searching, I lucked out and found one (45 miles away) and $1,500 CHEAPER. The very same model, options, and color I might add. It would of have been a helluva lot more easier utilizing the above mentioned network. And the dealer that was willing to "deal" won out. Just like it should be.
The current Ford locator has a lot more information that it did just a couple years ago. Unfortunately, a lot of it might be considered confidential (dealer contact, phone number/ extension/ e-mail address, etc...), or at least data that dealers would rather not be made so public. Can you imagine the phone calls?
"Hi, this is Bill Simpson."
"Hi, Bill, you don't know me, but I saw on the locator you have an Explorer I'm looking for. Can you tell me all about it, what are the monthly payments for 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72 months with $500, $1000, $2000 and $2500 down? Can you get me financed? What's your best price, because I'm calling 13 other Ford dealers, all within 20 miles of you..."
I think you get the idea.
Besides, you can do your own locate through Ford Direct, which is public and available to anyone.
