2000 7.3 w 6spd has stalled at different RPM and under different loads for the last 50k miles. Nothing serious just felt like a fuel blockage or venting issue. Very intermitent and didn't happen but every other week or so. Engine did not shut down, it just lost power for a half second or so.
Today, engine completely shut down on interstate. Attempted restart while coasting to right side across 3 lanes of traffic. Now I am concerned. Could not get restart while I was still moving. Engine was turning over but would not restart. Sat on the side of the road for around 2 minutes and tried restart again. She fired right up and came the rest of the way home (aprox 350mi).
I am thinking CPS. Does that sound right or am I looking at some sort of fuel issue?
If it is a CPS issue where is the best/quickest source?
In my opinion, the best place to get a CPS is an International truck dealer. About $110. Autozone sells them, but I've read of a lot of guys getting bad ones from them. If you get it at Autozone make sure it's still in the original packageing that has not been open. The least expensive place is ebay, but you have to wait for delivery.
I just changed my cps this week in my 99 PSD, it was doing the same thing SEATOW
psd was doing, i brought my from the internation dealer for $ 94.00. It was easier for myself to change it from the bottom, i could not fit my arm from the top. took about 15 minutes.
That's what mine did when the CPS was going out. It started out the just like that loss of power going down the road and later on stalling out and not restarting till I let it sit for awhile. I was one the ones who bought a CPS from autozone had in the glove box for all the good it did me. It was real fun to change it out at 10:00pm on the side road spend 30 minutes looking for the bolt I dropped in the grass only to find out it was the wrong part. Autozone and carquest both sell the wrong one advanced auto sells the right one, but it's just a little cheaper than Ford. An international dealer is your best bet for price and for the correct part. The CPS doesn't always throw a code when it goes bad, so don't be suprised if you don't get one. Good luck
Just had to get back with you on this one. You all were right on the money! It was the CPS and I should of listened to you; however, I went the short route and went to the nearest Autozone (about 10 miles) and got the part for $161., took it home, located the CPS (thanks to you all), and changed it. It did not work! Took it off - took it back to Autozone - got my money back - drove 110 miles round trip to the nearest International Truck parts dealer and paid $90 for the CORRECT part. Got back home at 10:00 p.m. had to try it... and I've been in my F250 and on the road ever since. Your site is GREAT. Thanks to all of you for your help.
This site has been added to my "favorites" list - just in case my F250 tries me again.
Happy Holidays to ALL !
