No gotcha's at all. It's simply a gear box. Change it out with Mercon 4 ATF and you are good to go. The transfer case (if you have one) is separate from the transmission itself and needs to be changed as well. Again use Mercon 4.

I think Kwik meant Mercon, as I'm not aware of any Mercon 4. In any event, ZF has an extensive list of approved lubricants for that transmission. All I can say is I switched to Mobil 1 ATF and it shifted smoother. When I drained the first batch of Mobil 1 ATF out of it, the fluid looked brand new compared to the brownish red factory fill that came out.

It will hold 6 quarts of Mercon rated ATF. I am also a user of synthetic ATF. In addition to the smoother shifts ColtM4 mentioned, it is also quieter. The "gear rollover" noise, as it's called, is less pronounced.
