My lights dim down when the truck is at idle, the radio quits playing, and even the blinkers, don' blink as fast as normal, I was told I must have a bad ground, I have checked many of the grounds, any suggestions about places to check?
[font color=red size=2]My '73 F100 390 does the same thing. At idle the heater fan slows down, the wipers slow down and the lights dim a little bit (radio is fine thought). I've owned it for the past 6 years and it hasn't caused me any trouble yet. I've even replaced the alt, regulator and the battery, with no change. I wouldn't worry about it, if I were you. - But the radio quitting would get irritating...
Check your grounds, make sure they are clean and making good contact. Check where the neg battery hooks to the engine and the grounding strap from the rear of the engine to the firewall. If that doesn't help, have the alt, batt and regulator tested.
My ’68 doe's the same thing but the radio still plays. The large diameter pulleys don’t help at idle speed, the alt. just turns too slow. In addition to what has been already suggested, check the harness connector that plugs into the regulator. Try unplugging it and plugging it in again a couple of times to make a better connection. Also check for good grounding where the regulator bolts on to the inner fender. Don’t run it with the regulator not bolted down.
