I've searched, but didn't find anything, maybe not using the right words...
I was just curious if anyone has pix of a truck with a body color grill surround and/or grill.
I have a 75 Ranger XLT SWB, 2WD. I bought it as a work truck, but have been thinking about fixin' 'er up someday. Body has some damage, but there is very little if any rust.
I was thinking maybe pull all the chrome/aluminum trim, add a 78/79 square light grill/surround with chrome light bezels and chrome or black grill, but paint the surround body color, which would be a solid color. Then leave the bumpers chrome, and add a set of early 90's aluminum F150 wheels...
Just a thought. Probably couldn't do anything for several years anyway...
Closer,
Take a look in my gallery, I have done something similar...but went with a black grill surround and front bumper to offset against my red truck(I also ended up using black wheels , whereas I needed 6 1/2 " backspacing to fit my rear tires under the fender.) With the tonneau cover being black and also the grill surround , wheels and bumper also being black, everything kinda mixed fairly well together.

Hey, looks great! I love the way these trucks look without the side trim. That's pretty much what I would do, except paint the grill surround body color. Painting the bumpers looks pretty good too!
You can look at my gallery too, at some of the older pics of it that has a black grill suround and black body. I actually perferd the chrome look, and got a chrome one.
Nice truck. How much trouble was it to paint the outside area of the grill. type paint etc? I like the gauges also how much trouble was that.
Thanks,
Bob

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Looks great!! 'course I love 78/79 Bronco's...
I generally don't care for trim on most cars. I'm having most of the trim removed from my Belvedere right now (wheel lip mouldings, side trim, trunk finish panel, hood letters and antenna). IMHO, it just clutters, and promotes rust... Looks clean/sleek without it.

Bob,
Thank you. Was no trouble at all painting the grill surround, of course everything thing on the truck was painted in pieces, so just scuffed it up good, used a good self-etching primer and base coat clear coat. The problem I see with going with same color surround as body is...It's alot easier to touch up a black grill surround then a colored one. When you consider how much you are leaning over the grill working( it will get scratched or scuffed).
The dash was quite a bit of work, but worth it.
Hope that helps, and the comment about color matching the grill surround with body color isn't directed at you but was mentioned in above posts.
