At the 2014 Sema show there was a slammed red dent side. The aluminum grill surround was painted to match the body. My 76 is in the paint booth and Im wondering if anyone has done this or has seen it in person. Any thoughts?
i've seen it in person..on my own truck...previous owner bomb canned the front grille white...I guess it would look good in a better color, eg. blue, black, red, etc...but white looks terrible.
IMO, The grille shell and inserts are one of the best features of these trucks, the pictured one is nice but, the painted grille shell is to much, and all black inserts are an assault on these trucks looks.
ive got a picture of my grill in my gallery. itay not be cholor scheme everyne likes but the truck is goin matte black sooner or later. and that green just happens to be my favorite color.
I think it depends on the desire to keep side trim or not. If you paint or powdercoat the shell a color the shiny side trim looks kinda weird to me. Remove the trim and you can do what you want.
Who cares what we think...it's your truck....get a shell that a little rough and some spray paint and try it out.
Thanks grinnergetter
All of my trim has been shaved including the mirrors so there is very little shiny stuff. The custom paint is going on tomorrow so Im going to go for it. If I don't like it then I will have to order a new one from LMC Trucks.
I am new to the forum so I will upload pictures once the truck is out of paint and I figure out how to post pictures!
@gatorfor88 - previous owner of my truck didn't prep the grille shell at all.. just bomb canned it.. and that paint will not come off. i will have to replace the shell..it's ugly...
My grille surround is all hazed up and oxidized. Tried polishing it, try sanding it with 1500 grit and then polishing it, etc. I was contemplating painting it a light gray to sort of mimic the natural look.
Nice collection of photos, I stopped by the paint shop today and the primer was going on the surround. I will get some pictures up once the paint is completed.
