I have a chance to get a 460 out of a 76 jet boat to put in my 80 f250 that has a 300 at this time.Is this engine somewhat compatible being a marine engine or will I have to change heads or have other surprises.
Thanks
Fat250
The motor and heads should be fine. You will want a different cam though. Carb will probably need to be switched too. Most marine carbs have no choke at least not anything you recognize as a choke. Some use an enrichment system. If it a real screamer of a jet it might have a car carb in it.

How many boats have you owned? I've worked on hundreds of boats with a carb, and they all have chokes. Most came with a Quadrajet, and the choke is either electric, or operates by a heat sensing spring.
My 87 FourWinns has an OMC King Cobra 7.5L (Ford) engine and the manual indicates that it has an automatic choke installed.
It does not however have a vacuum advance distributor. You might need an automotive distributor. The cam is also optimized for marine use ..... That also might be a factor.
