2002 F-350 PSD. Truck was running and CD player was active. I got in drivers side and shut door and CD player and radio went dead. The only thing that works is the clock button on the radio. The clock comes on when the clock button is pushed and goes out in 4.5 seconds. The CD player and radio is dead. When I turn on the lights the clock display stays on until lights are turned off. I push CD eject button and the display says " no CD." That is all that works on CD player and radio.
I removed radio and checked connector. The "one" connector that is plugged in the back of the radio is firmly seated. I checked the radio(fuse 32) (start) 5 amp fuse ,it is fine. I checked radio main (fuse 11) 20 amp fuse it is fine. Want to see if anyone has had a similar problem before I take radio apart. Any ideas ?
I don't know it yours is an indask 6 disd or not, but I do know from experience that these radios are very finicky about vibrations and jolts. Especially during shipping. In the end, I bought an aftermarket that would play MP3s and WMAs, like that setup much better.
As far as taking it apart. It is pretty easy to do as I tried to fix mine, but with 6 disc, it was more a pita that it was worth to me.
Thanks Mike for your response. It is single CD player with cassette and radio underneath. I have a electronics background so repairing it should come easy. It would be nice to be sure it was in the radio or before the radio. I was hoping to run into someone who may have had a similar problem before. Ford doesn't let you talk to the tech department to ask them questions, so I thought I would try here. This forum has solved many of my problems before, the latest being my Camshaft Postioning Sensor.
I have this exact problem in my 2002 F250 PSD w/ the same radio. Sometimes the radio/cd player works and sometimes it doesn't. It will shut off for no reason with the same symptoms described above and if I'm lucky, it will come back to life. Some days it turns back on after a few minutes and other days it shuts off with out recovering for the whole day. I have tried to recreate the conditions that have allowed the radio to come back on with out success. Fuses and wire connections look good.
Today I noticed that the map lights and power windows stopped functioning at the same time the radio stopped working. The problem seems to be either the Accessory Delay Relay or the connection for the relay. If I wiggle the relay and pull it out slightly, everything works.
I found this answer to my problem posted on another thread about the same topic.
That's why I love this forum (and the search feature)! I took my headliner out today to try to fix a dent (whole other story) and after putting the truck back together, I had no radio, power windows, or map lights. It ended up being the 10A "instrument cluster" fuse (great labelling job Ford, my instrument cluster worked fine). Just some more info on this problem; the two map light screws that thread into plastic are "hot" (+12V), if you do not line the screws up properly and one of the 2 screws touches the body, it will blow the aforementioned fuse, but not any of the obvious fuses. I suspect this happens to people replacing map light bulbs on occasion.
Did replacing the fuse fix your other problems? You may have an intermittant fuse or the socket it fits into is intermittant. Sometimes you can twist the fuse's "prongs" a bit and restore reliable contact.
BTW, kudos to you for using the search function! It can really save time!

I have a similar, but different problem with the radio in my 99 PSD, so after a search this is the closest I could find to my problem. Usually in the morning, but anytime really the radio (cd and cassette over radio) will come on all by itself. There will be a humming sound from inside the dashboard and it just happens. While listening to the radio, it will switch to CD player, go to tract 1 and then give you an error message. After about 15 seconds of this it will go back to the radio station. It may do it once a day, once an hour, or once a week. At one time I thought it may be outside temperture related as it seemed to do it more in the winter, but now it is fairly warm here in Alaska and it has done it 3 times already this a.m.
Same thing happened to me a few times. I just hit above the dashboard a few times when it stopped and it started working again. I did this a fews times and it never has gave me any problems.
Too funny, small hammer or big hammer? I usually fix most electical stuff by dropping it on the concrete once or twice. Then usually throw it away. Thanks for the answer, but I plan on keeping this truck the rest of my life and I want to find the source of the humming noise. Until then I will use your method, but probably use the heel of my hand, not a mall.
Another symptom of this problem appears to have raised its' ugly head. While this humming is going on if I activate the starter it acts as if the batteries are nearly dead. Starter drags, and wiper motor cycles one time. I posted another thread on this problem and got no replies. It had never occured to me that maybe the two were related. When the humming ceases, truck starts normally. Something is going bad here and has been for a couple of years. I am getting pissed, cuz I don't like it when things are not perfect. If I wanted problems like this I would have bought a Dodge!
not sure if you ever fixed this problem but I always like to throw in that you should check your grounds. I had a similiar issue with my truck and even the same style radio. Except with my issue it was slamming the door and everything would go weird. Lights on and off, windows down by themselves (in the pouring rain) and the radio would go out.
Because it was electrical I decided to take it straight to Ford. $100 later and one tightened ground and now everything is as good as new. I made the service tech show me the problem ground for future use. Apparently if the ground has issues the power running through one line will jump to the others. That effect had never entered my mind as a possible result of faulty ground.
