I've got to have a similar issue to the ones posted here.

In my truck, when you first turn it on, the radio lights (clock) will flash and it will not play for about 10 seconds. If you do anything else electrical in that time, the radio will cut out- for example, when the airbag light goes on and off on the dash, the radio will cut out for a second. If you hit the brake pedal, the radio will shut out. This stops if you just let the truck alone for about 45 seconds and then get in and go.

If, at any time, you flash your courtesy lights to let a trucker or someone else change lanes, the radio will shut off.

I saw a similar post on the Super Duty forum, and I think the cause was narrowed to a ground... if you guys are finding that it's a ground as well, can any of you give me an idea where to look to check that out on my truck?

I'm glad someone brought this thread back to page 1, it seems like there are quite a few of us with super strange electrical gremlins that are like little practical joke players. But an old man once told me that nothing on a vehicle repairs itself. So someday whatever is doing this "funny" stuff, if going to let us down completely at just the wrong time.

I heard that. I replaced what was allegedly a bad radio, and it still didn't fix my problem. I think I'm going to take it in to Ford and see what they can find wrong. Hopefully something cheap to fix

How odd. I have stock radio problems and I just figured it was one of those isolated things. Mine always plays and works just fine, the display just goes on and off as it pleases, and the display is sometimes affected by the headlights.

My idea of a fix is to get an aftermarket stereo system and fix any electrical problems or bad grounds while I am in there.

From what I've heard, getting an A/M radio is usually the best solution. Ford has some issues with their radios, especially their 6 disc stackers. I just wasted some serious $$$ on a non-returnable factory replacement one, so I'm gonna stick with it. I'm hoping my problem is just a ground, like someone mentioned before.

One week after my warranty expired my radio started to do the same thing. I was going to take it out to try and fix it but I realized I could not get my CD's out. The deck had been getting hot and warped my CD's so they wouldnt eject. I found a great solution to this problem after the fact........

Here is what I found....Take a large sized claw hammer. Turn the hammer so the claws are facing the stereo. With lots of force start beating the hell out of it and buy an aftermarket replacement. I will never custom order my rig with a upgraded expensive piece of crap stereo again.

^^ hmmmm, that's an interesting fix.

Another quick question, are there suppose to be 2 sets of plugs (tabs) in the back of the radio? Because I only have one plugged in behind mine...

From my experience these factory CD/radios aren't worth fixing. Take it out and replace with an Alpine. They sound a hundred times better and don't have the bugs.

I havent paid to find out how to fix it either, IMO the factory stereo is not worth fixing. Bet one of the electrical gurus in the electronics forum would be willing to provide some "free" info tho.. everyone here seems to have the same opinion, throw it away.
