I got 15" silver ford steel wheel with fairly good 31x10.50 rubber on it that I want to use as a spare for the set of LT245/75R16's I have on my Bronco right now. The wheel is mostly OK but it has quite a few small rust spots on it that I'd like to get rid of, or at least cover them up. What would be the best way to do this?
I want a "paint job" that requires no rework in a few months, but I also don't want to spend too much time and money on an $20 junkyard wheel. I'll try to sand the rust spots I can access, but I don't think I can get rid of all of them, either because some might be too deep, and some might be difficult to access, even with a sanding sponge. So one question is, what kind of primer I need to seal in the rust?
I'd like to think any primer with a rust inhibitor, I did a full set for my '84 (check gallery) and it was only about $15 max to primer/paint/clear coat the entire set and it looks rather nice too.
On that note, there's been a couple brands of primer I've dealt with, so don't go for the cheapo brand its not worth it.
