We are thinking of setting our 16 year old up. He wants a 12" sub setup. We are talking about him driving a 1990 dodge colt. Nothing spectacular and we do not want to spend a lot of money. What are your thoughts? We have looked at a Visonik amp speaker combo.
I thought visonik only does home audio. If you want a good beginner sub/amp combo, I think you would do good to look at Kenwood subs and amps. I personally prefer JL Audio, but it costs more and if it's his first car and stereo...he's gonna tear it up. So, go to Wal-Mart and buy a Sony amp and sub. What are you planning on for a head unit?
Visonik makes some "ok" subs, but their amps aren't worth the money. For a first "system" for his car. Think about getting Audiobahn for the subs and even the amp. Nothing super high powered, because you don't want him in the driveway shaking your pictures off the walls lol.
What kind of money are you planning on spending, and what kind of music does he listen to? Good luck.
We are looking to do this on the cheap side. Nothing fancy. The car is already a rattle box. Just going to be worse with subs. He listens to (can't believe I am even going to type this word) rap.
I'd get the kit for him, if he likes rap, he'll love the chrome. Remember you'll also need a box for them and a wiring kit as well. But you can also get on ebay and get some excellent deals. I personally love Crutchfield's customer service, so if you buy from them they'll stay on the phone with you and tell you exactly how to hook it up. They'll go through every wire related to audio/video in your car with you if you want.
amen to what he said. they have done a splended job helping me out. you can save a little money buy having him build his own box to fit / or having someone teach him how to build it. most kids love building stuff with their hands
Thanks for your help gentlemen. I ended up going with a 4 channel Kicker amp, 10" Kicker sub, 2 Jenson 3" 185 watt and 2 5" jenson 185 Watt speakers. Ran me about $600.00 and sounds awsome.
