My 1990 B2 wouldn't restart for me last Weds. I had just come back from work to grab a few things and when I went back out to leave all I got was some clicking sounds. So far I have replaced the selonoid on the fender and exchanged my battery thinking it might be that but to no avail. I am thinking its the starter but would like to hear from you all. BTW....the starter and the solenoid on it is all one unit right?
If you look at any wiring diagram you will see that what you replaced is the starter relay. The starter solenoid is part of the starter.
Have you checked for clean tight connections of the cables?
Try adding a jumper cable to the different cables. If you jump from the positive of the battery to the starter relay etc & it fires right up, replace that cable.
If jumping the different cables is no help, replace the starter.
Edit
BTW, it' always good to understand how a circuit works before you start testing it, so take a look at the start circuit wiring diagram for your 90 B-2 before you mess with it.
I have the wiring diagrams for my 87, but not sure if yours is wired the same.
Enter the info for your B-2 at autozone.com & you can pull up the online wiring diagram.
I put cables to my B2 today...I hooked a set up to my Cherokee and then to the B2 and still just got the click sound. Do you mean to single out the cables on my B2 as in try the pos first then the neg?
Yeah, just attach a jumper cable between the negative post on the battery & any handy location on the engine, if it still wont crank, connect the jumper between the positive post on the battery & the starter relay & see if it starts.
It's just a quick & simple way to see if a cable needs to be replaced.
Also check the wires on the driver's side and make sure they didn't melt to the exhaust manifold. I would also clean the battery posts with the cables off and scrape them clean and scrape the part that goes on the post as well.
