My friend has a 1989 F-150 300 I6 and his son took the battery out and put it back in and now it won't start but there's power to the solenoid (it clicks) but the starter does not turn or do anything. What is going on with it do you all think?
if everything was good before the bat. switch, that would narrow it down to the... bat. switch. check bat. voltage and connections. a good battery should be about 12.5 volts.
kc73 wow i guess your the only one not at a bar tonight, well we tried to jump it but all it does it click one when you turn the key, not like click, click click when the batt is dead.
mine did this and it turned out to be the connection. I replaced the cables. then when it did it a second time the clamp was loose from the battery post. So i turned it upside down(narrower on top) and i am using it like that to make sure it is connected good.
(don't rule it out even though you get power at the solenoid, i was getting power to my stereo during all this)
there are many posts here that can give you insight to your problem. try a search. if that does not help get back to us. if the solenoid on the fenderwall is clicking, then you are getting voltage to there. question is... is it enough and is it getting to your starter. a novice with a ten dollar multimeter can narrow things down quite a bit. my point is do not stick money into it before you test a few things first. all cables must be in operational order, contacts must be clean and tight. problem could be starter, cables, neutral safety switch, battery... like i said try a search and you will get a ton of info about no start problems. good luck.
