As a life long Petty fan and an avid Mark Martin fan, Dale Earnhardt was one of my least favorite drivers on the track.
However I had the utmost respect for the man's talents and compassion. I thought when I cried the day Adam lost what was to be a stellar life , that something must be done!!
Now three drivers later, I am sure.
Dale was alsays the first to tell you that something like this was bound to happen with Nascar's rules.
As far as I am concerned if Nascar is more concerned with the ratings than the lives of our heros, then I will have to find a new passion.
I sincerely hope that those with the power to make changes do.
I wish all of God's love and peace to all the Earnhardt family, both blood and within the great sport of motor racing.
I was so happy to see Michael win his first race and for this to turn to tragedy breaks my heart!!
This is a very dark day!

I cheer for Mark Martin but I loved the way Earnhardt drove a stock car. Earnhardt's death is a sad loss for NASCAR, his friends, but especially his family. A death in any sporting event is tragic, but I don't agree with changing rules because 9 have died racing in the past 10 years. I believe these professionals know and accept the risks of losing a car at close to 200 MPH. Still, to me it seems that a race track can be a hell of a lot safer than going for the groceries. My thoughts go out to Earnhardt's family.

I personally never met Earnhardt, I do have to respect anyone who rose through the ranks and become one of the most well know drivers in Nascar history. I can remember back when he was driving the yellow and blue Wrangler car. seems a million ears ago now as all most people remember is the black #3 Good wrench car. 49 years old is way to young to go. As others have said, If it had to happen at least it was behind the wheel doing something he loved. Watching the races just won't be the same anymore. It most be especially hard for his son right now as he was right there when it happened. Definatly a sad day for Nascar and a sad day for America. I have found that even folks who do not follow Nascar know the name. My hat's off to Dale Earnhardt Sr. and his family.
Like Don McLean said in is song "American Pie", the day Buddy Holly died is the day the music died. I am 50 years old and followed Dale Earnhardt his entire career. I didn't like him when he first started racing because but I came to admire him and respect him like no racer I have ever followed. He was the only reason that I watched NASCAR. He was racing as far as I'm concerned. He was throwback to the days when racing was really stock cars. He was an American original. So for me the day he died is the day that racing died. It will never be the same for me and I have watched my last race. God has called Dale to the big race in the sky. I'll miss you buddy. Oh how I'll miss you.
you know,i don't really know what to say.i agree with everything said,4 days after the passing of the most loved nascar driver i'm still in shock.i just don't know what to say, what can be said? every time i think about it i just shake my head and i can't think about anything.my thoughts are with the earnhardt family and m.waltrip and family. DALE you will be deeply missed, and nascar will never be the same.#3 should be retired , because NOBODY will ever be accepted in#3 not even jr. sad very sad.
